What this test is
The Liver Function Test reports enzymes and proteins that the liver produces and processes. Raised SGPT and SGOT usually point to liver cell damage — from fatty liver, hepatitis, alcohol, or drug reactions. Raised bilirubin shows up as jaundice. Low albumin suggests long-term liver disease. The test is essential before starting any medication that strains the liver, including some antibiotics and TB drugs.
