What this test is
A urine routine examination checks colour, clarity, pH, glucose, protein, blood, and microscopic content (cells, casts, crystals). It is the first test for suspected urinary tract infection, kidney disease, or diabetic complications. The chemical strip gives a result in minutes; microscopic examination adds detail. Sample collection at the centre is preferred — fresh, midstream samples give the most accurate results.
