What this test is
A Lipid Profile reports the levels of cholesterol and triglycerides in your blood. Indians develop heart disease earlier than most other populations — most physicians recommend a baseline lipid profile by age 25 and annual repeats after 35. LDL above 100 mg/dL, triglycerides above 150, or HDL below 40 (men) / 50 (women) put you in the higher risk bucket. The test needs a 12-hour fast for accurate triglyceride numbers.
