Venous Doppler of the lower limbs evaluates blood flow through the deep and superficial veins, looking for blood clots (deep vein thrombosis or DVT) and assessing varicose vein function. Critical in patients with sudden leg swelling, pain, or after long bedrest or long-haul travel. Untreated DVT can travel to the lungs and become life-threatening.

FAQs
Why is DVT serious?
A clot in the leg can break loose and travel to the lungs (pulmonary embolism), which can be fatal. Early diagnosis and blood thinners prevent this.Is the test painful?
Probe pressure may be uncomfortable on a tender, swollen leg, but otherwise painless. How quickly should I do this if my leg is swollen?
If swelling is acute and one-sided, urgently — same day. Sudden swelling with calf pain should not wait.
